The History of Diving Museum, located in the city of Islamorada in the United States, is a fascinating place to explore. It takes visitors on a journey through diving history from ancient times to modern day, with an array of artifacts and interactive displays. The museum includes one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of dive equipment, as well as many rare pieces that were used by some famous divers throughout history. A visit to the museum will allow you to explore how and why diving has changed over time and discover some unique items that tell stories about underwater pioneers.
One main thing to see while visiting is an iconic Helium-Oxygen diving suit from 1943 - dubbed ‘Old Matt’ - which was used by Major Matthew Maury during his explorations at sea. Another must-see item is a life-sized sculpture representing Jacques Cousteau and his loyal assistant Philippe Dumas; it captures their pioneering spirit perfectly. There are also several interactive exhibits allowing visitors to gain hands-on experience with different underwater tools used throughout the years.
