Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is an ancient capital of Thailand, located in the Chao Phraya River Basin. It was once a bustling international trading post and one of the most powerful cities in Southeast Asia during its time of rule from 1350 to 1767. Today, it is a Unesco World Heritage Site renowned for its grand ruined temples, crumbling historical sites, and traditional Thai culture. Tourists can explore places like Wat Yai Chaimongkol with its impressive pagoda and Bang Pa-In Summer Palace with its mix of exotic architecture styles from different eras. Visitors can also step back to the past at Ayutthaya Historical Park with its well-preserved ruins scattered across old palaces, monasteries and temples that are now engulfed by lush greenery. An interesting historical fact about Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is that in 1767 it was completely destroyed by neighboring Burma's forces during a war - this event has become known as 'The Fall of Ayutthaya'.
