Visit Misiones

Misiones is a region located in the north-east of Paraguay. It borders Brazil, Corrientes Province in Argentina and the Alto Parana department of Paraguay. It is one of the nine departments that make up Paraguay. The capital city of Misiones is San Ignacio Guazu.

The main tourist attractions are its natural beauty and sites, such as Iguazu Falls National Park, which straddles both Brazil and Argentina and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can also enjoy exploring San Ignacio Mini Archaeological Park with its Jesuit ruins; Cerro Leon National Park; San Bernardino Rapids Natural Monument; Concepcion Hill Nature Reserve; Salto Monday River nature reserve, among other attractive places in Misiones.

Misiones was named after the Guarani Jesuit order "Compania de Jesus de la Provincia de las Misiones del Parana" who evangelized this area during colonial times from 1609 to 1767 when they were expelled by Spanish authorities from what today belongs to both Brazil and Argentina as well as Paraguay.
