Visit Musandam Governorate

The Musandam Governorate is a mountainous Omani peninsula projecting into the Strait of Hormuz, separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. It's renowned for its breathtaking fjord-like craggy inlets and desolate mountainscapes, earning it the nickname the "Norway of Arabia". Tourists flock to Khasab, the local capital, for its 17th-century fort and the bustling harbour, where traditional dhow cruises offer dolphin sightings and panoramic views of the dramatic coastline. Another must-visit is Jebel Harim, the highest peak in the region, perfect for hiking and enjoying stunning vistas. Historically, Musandam has been a strategic location due to its proximity to the Persian Gulf and has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Notably, the Portuguese occupied the area in the 16th century, leaving behind a rich architectural legacy, such as the Khasab Fort.
